What is this?

Green Lake Circle is a non-commercial neighborhood project. Nobody is making money here. There is no venture capital. There are no ads. There is no algorithm deciding what you see. It's just a bunch of neighbors talking to each other, like we used to do face-to-face except the fence is the internet and some of us are in pajamas.

The golden rule

Be kind. That's it. That's the rule.

The person you're replying to might be the one who shovels your sidewalk in winter, watches your dog when you're on vacation, or waves at you from across the street. Treat them accordingly.

Disagreement is fine — we're neighbors, not a hive mind. There is, however, a difference between a disagreement and an attack. When in doubt--don't type it out. Kindness costs nothing and makes the whole neighborhood better.

Things we should not have to say but are going to anyway, so when someone inevitably violates them, we can point to where they went wrong:

Don't post anything you wouldn't want an attorney to read aloud in a court of law.

Your content

You own what you write. By posting here, you give the community a license to display it on the site and in email notifications. That's it. We're not going to train an AI on your parking complaints or sell your hot takes about leaf blowers to data brokers.

You can delete your posts and your account at any time. If you delete your account, your posts stay up (attributed to "[deleted]") because other people may have replied to them and the conversation should still make sense.

Moderation

A small group of volunteer moderators (just one at the time of this writing) keeps things running. They (He) can remove posts, threads, or accounts that violate these terms. (He'll try not to become drunk with power or develop a maniacal laugh. Also, he would love to enlist others to do that work so he can get back to doing nothing much at all.)

If you see something that violates these terms, report it and let the moderator(s) handle it.

Privacy

Your email address is used for login and notifications. We don't share it with anyone. We don't track you across the internet. We use cookies only for keeping you logged in, which is the one thing cookies were actually invented for.

That said, this is not a private platform. Everything you post here can be seen by every member of the community. And if law enforcement comes knocking asking for logs or post history, nobody here is playing attorney — we'll hand it over. If you have secrets, keep them.

Disclaimer

This platform is provided as-is by volunteers. We do our best, but we make no guarantees about uptime, reliability, or the quality of anyone's opinions about street parking. Use at your own risk. We are not responsible for content posted by users.

Changes

We may update these terms from time to time. If we do, we'll post about it. Continued use of the platform means you're good with the current terms.

Questions? Concerns? Compliments? Post in the General channel or email the moderators. We're friendly. We're your neighbors.
